In Black and White

Second LifeI found Not Everything is Plain Black and White in the Destination Guide. Second Life is Not a Game

One of my teeny tiny pet peeves is when people harp about Second Life being a game. This is often followed by declarations that games should not be taken seriously. Therefore, Second Life should not be taken seriously.

I wrote in another blog that despite certain statistics about the web and other things geek…

  • Facebook has 750 million active users and 53% of Facebook users play games
  • 65% of U.S. households play video games
  • World of Warcraft has 11.1 million subscribers
  • 2008 saw eight superhero movies
  • The Dark Knight was the highest-grossing film of 2008 worldwide with a total of $1,001,921,825
  • About 130,000 people attended San Diego Comic-Con in 2010

…Second Life crosses some kind of nerd line.

Putting the benefits of play, such as learning, teamwork, relaxation, and therapy, aside, there’s a lot more going on in Second Life than playing. I opened the Search and the Destination Guide and decided to check out some other ways in which Second Life is being used.
