SOPA / PIPA Blackout

On January 18 many websites, including Reddit and Boing Boing, are going dark in protest of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act), two dangerous bills that would dramatically alter the internet landscape and create a punishing censorship regime in ill-attempts at stopping copyright infringement.

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,600 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 27 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

Pretty darn good for a blog that’s only about two months old. Yay me! And yay you! Thank you for reading.

Viewer 3.2.0 Beta Candidate

Earlier this week, Linden Lab released a new beta candidate viewer. I already use the official viewer so this development viewer, 3.2.0, does not hold a big learning curve for me, but it includes some great new features that I am loving.

Group Limits Raised to 42 Today

In October, we committed to increase group limits from the current 25 up to 40 in the first quarter of 2011. As of today, group limits have been raised to 42! To add groups beyond the previous limit of 25, you must be using Viewer  2.4 (or a more recent version). And if you’re still using Viewer 1.23, or a third-party viewer based on Viewer 1.23 code, then you can add more groups in Viewer 2.4 and they will still be accessible when you switch back to Viewer 1.23.

That said, if there is an unexpected load, then we may need to lower the group limitation to maintain acceptable performance levels across the grid. If we decide to do that, then any Residents who have up to 42  groups will not lose their memberships. But, other Residents will not be able to exceed the new limit.

42 Groups!

42 Groups!

As of yesterday afternoon, the group limit is 42.

Note that you will need a viewer that supports >25 groups (such as the 2.4 viewer) in order to take advantage of the new limit, as older viewers have the limit hardcoded to 25.

More details will follow shortly on the official blog.

40 Groups Go!

There’s been no official word from Linden Lab yet this morning, but it appears the group cap has been raised to 40. I now belong to 29 groups. I joined Donna Flora, Sonatta Morales, the Evil League of Evil, and Vintage Events and Chat. I’m a happy pixelgurl.
